behind the business

I'm the founder and owner of Emily Moore Boutique Photo Editing. In 2013, I graduated from Appalachian State University and left family, friends and (at the time) a serious boyfriend behind to begin my career as a full time Photo Retoucher for Splash Worldwide in Portland, Oregon. This was by far the most difficult decision of my life and was often the source of some tear-filled nights.

Hey there, I'm Emily!

with an amazing commercial retouching company and a proposal from the man of my dreams, it was time for us to make a choice. Continue on with the stable job and work my way up the ladder or venture out into the world of photography on my own. As scary as it was to leave behind a steady job,  I felt the urge to help other photographers that struggle editing their weddings.

After learning the ropes

I just needed a little help to get started. With support from family and friends I took a leap of faith and Attended the Creative at Heart conference where I met my first clients. After hearing Mary Marantz speak at the conference, I had to introduce myself. I told them my story and that’s when Justin told me that they had actually been looking for an editor and wanted to know if I wanted to give it a shot (Umm… Of Course!)!

Like all small businesses

I’ve grown to work with dozens of photographers across the United States, taught students from all over the world, and built a successful editing team. It has been an amazing journey so far, and I cannot wait to see what the future holds for this little business of mine!

It all began with a lunch date at McAlister's Deli. Zach says he talked a lot because I wasn't talking...I say I couldn't talk at all because he wouldn't stop talking. Apparently, we'll never agree on this! Despite our awkwardness, I knew right away we were going to have something special.

After graduating from college, we faced one of the biggest challenges of our relationship. My career was pushing me across the country while his kept him in NC. After just one year of dating, I was afraid it would be the end of us, but he fully supported me & encouraged me to pursue my dreams.

After spending a year 3000 miles apart, Zach proposed while I was home for Christmas break. I was in utter shock (& tears!), but completely over-the-moon. He was the love of my life, & I couldn't wait to marry him! Three months later, I moved back home to North Carolina so we could start our life together.

We were married in May 2016, & it was truly the most amazing day of my life. It's amazing how the stress of a wedding (& being sick) just melted away the moment I saw him that day (seriously ladies, first looks do wonders!). My heart is so full every time I think back on that wonderful day.

It's been 3.5 years since our wedding day & so much has happened since. We paid off $63,000 of debt; traveled to 14 different states & 3 different countries; we bought our first (& second!) home together; became fur-parents to two sweet pups, & became parents to a sweet angel in heaven.
