Hello 2022! (Life Updates)

To say it’s been a hot minute since I’ve written a blog post would be an understatement. I wish I had a better excuse as to why I’ve been absent but the truth is that my life has just been chaotic over the last year. In May we had our daughter, Caroline, and if you have kids then you know how much of an adjustment it is becoming a first-time parent. Not only that, but learning how to be a parent while simultaneously running a business is probably the biggest challenge I’ve ever faced in my life. Want to throw in an extra dose of anxiety? Add a worldwide pandemic to that and you’ve got yourself one stressed out mama.

I’m not going to lie: being a mom is really, really hard. I can’t tell you how many times I sat in my living room tied to a pump attempting to soothe a fussy baby and ended up in tears. There have been times when I look back on a day, and I’m not quite sure how I got through it, but the truth is that getting to spend time with my daughter makes it all worth it. I love spending time with her, and I love the little personality she is developing. Mamas, if you’re in the early stages of having a new baby – it DOES get better, I promise. Especially after pumping/breastfeeding (oh my gosh it’s the WORST). The first few months are hard, but as they grow and learn how to do things on their own, it becomes a LOT easier. I plan on talking more about motherhood on the blog as the year goes on, so if you’re interested in seeing more of that content, let me know!

A Few Updates on Caroline:

Caroline is the sweetest little girl I’ve ever known. She’s not really too fussy unless she needs something (food, diaper change, or nap) or she’s teething (*Shudders* ohhhh the teething….). She has the most amazing laugh. It’s honestly the most beautiful sound I’ve ever heard. Every milestone she hits feels like the biggest accomplishment – a first-time parent thing, I’m sure, but I embrace it. The first time I saw her roll from back to front felt amazing. The other day, she sat up for the first time on her own and I was so proud of her. She’ll be 1 in just 2.5 months and I’m kind of in disbelief that it’s almost been a whole year since she came into this world. We also think she might be pretty tall…at 9 months, she was measuring 24.5 lbs, 29” tall, and she’s quickly outgrowing her size 18 month clothing. Our baby is gigantic, but she is oh-so-beautiful! Just look at her grow below!

The Year that was 2021…

Despite the fact that it was the busiest season of my business up to that point, I was so fortunate to be able to take nearly 3 months of maternity leave after having Caroline (another reason for my absence on social platforms last year). This was only possible because of my incredible team. They each took on a few of my clients last year and allowed me to take some much-needed time off. This was something I never imagined I could do in my business, but because of them, it was possible. I am SO blessed to have each and every one of them!

If you follow me on Instagram, you’ll know that back in October, we very suddenly and unexpectedly lost our sweet Koda boy. It was truly a shock, especially since he was only 3 years old. The vet said he either had a heart attack or a blood clot. Either way, it was a really traumatic experience for me. I mentioned on my Instagram that he had passed away, but I haven’t really told the whole story. I don’t want to go into too much detail, but essentially we were in the car and I immediately knew something was very wrong when I heard him crying in the back. It was so fast, and by the time I parked and ran to check on him he was already gone. I still don’t understand why it happened, but it was a very tough season to get through. My heart is still broken. Koda *loved* Caroline so much and I know that they were going to be best buddies. This is the only picture I have of the 5 of us together.

On top of all of that, I experienced quite a few health issues last year that I’m not quite ready to talk about yet. Someday I will, because I think it’s important to talk about, but I’m just not there yet (don’t worry, it’s nothing super serious).

What’s to Come

This year, I’ve decided that I need to focus more on my health and prioritize more time with my family. Last year I had a baby and ever since then I have had a lot of issues getting back to normal. The fall season was the busiest we have ever had in my seven years of business and it took a lot out of me. I missed out on so much time with Caroline and I don’t want to look back and feel like I missed seeing her grow up. I want to be there for all of the important milestones in her life.

Some of the ways I’m choosing to focus a little more on my health this year is by cutting back on some of my editing work. I’m still very much involved in my business and I am still editing for clients but I am letting my team take over more of the editing this year. I also finally hired a virtual assistant! Oh my gosh this is one of the best investments I’ve ever made for my business. She is amazing and has been working to help me get content planned for the year. If this is something you can afford to invest in in your business I highly recommend it! If you come back in 2 weeks, I’ll be talking more about my experience working with my VA and how it’s changed my life!

This year I brought on 4 new editors and may be bringing on a few more as the year goes on. I am so excited about the growth that we’ve experienced over the last year and we’ll hopefully see even more as 2022 continues. I’m working with my VA on content creation and my goal is to show up more this year without sacrificing time with my family while also preventing burnout.

I have some really fun and exciting new things in the works for this year that I can’t wait to show them to you!
